                                                      Dr. Inyang Mecha,  Member of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (MNSP) is a a retired senior Lecturer of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and a Research Contact for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), a consultant for the World Bank in the Green Revolution (A livestock Production Plan for Nigeria)  is the Principal Consultant, an Expert and Originator of the globally recognized research work entitled "Identification of the Existing Goat Breeds of Southern Nigerian Origin (Nigerian Dwarf Goats) on the Basis of External Characteristics" (Classification),  a writer of National and International standing with six publications and several other scientific articles, and originator of several  discoveries to his credit in the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Global Network.

 Mecha became the founder of Farming Systems Research in 1974 as well as the Friendship Agricultural Mission (FAM) Inc, which involves the development of human resources such as manpower training and  retraining of people to acquire skills towards revolutionizing agriculture through self reliance that leads to self sufficiency in food production, among other pioneering works he did as his original creation, innovation,  and which is essentially Nigerian in content and international in distinction.

 His work is a clarion call to increase the level of protein by raising small livestock and crops through a more effective and efficient rural development strategy - development of human resources at the grassroots level. 

Below are just a few of his global contributions to the Sheep and Goats and other small-scale industries for most effective rural development methodology: 

In 1991, The National Research Council. 1991. Micro stock: Little Known Small Animals with a Promising Economics Future. National Press, Washington, D.C listed him as the only research contact under Micro Sheep and Micro Goats from the University of Nigeria Nsukka  (Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 90-63998, ISBN 0-309-04437-5, Pg. 396 and 398). This report was prepared "...by the Board of Science and Technology for the International Development (BOSTID) of the  Internal Affairs which addresses a range of issues arising from the ways in which science and technology in developing countries can stimulate and complement the complex processes of social and economic development".  In addition, "the project that is the subject of the report was approved by the governing Board of the National Research Council, whose members are drawn from the councils of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine. The members of the committee responsible for the report were chosen for their special competence and with regard for appropriate balance".

In 1990, he was recognized by the Chairman of the Who's Who in Igboland Committee Daily Star Printing and Publishing Company, Ltd., Enugu as a leading prominent Igbo Personality for inclusion in the who's who in Igboland publication and to reflect his achievements and contribution to humanity, the society and the Igbo race in particular. 

During President Babangida's Regime, in Nigeria, he served the administration as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee on International Livestock Center for Africa (ILCA).  In addition, under the same regime, he discovered the better life for Rural Dwellers in Nigeria.

  He was also appointed one of the National Livestock Breeding Policy to consider determination of the importation of all species of livestock from foreign countries at the expense of developing indigenous species of livestock.

  The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Science and Technology appointed him as one of the research consultant of Small Ruminants (Sheep and Goats) Research Group, a Nationally Coordinated Research Program at the level of (a small Ruminant Production and Marketing Under Traditional and Institutional Management System in Nigerian).

A Co-Author of Science Textbox Man and His Environment a longman Publication, which focuses on the comprehensive Introduction to the role of Science and Technology in Modern Society.

Between 1985-1986, he was appointment by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, as one of the consultants of the Small Ruminant Research Program involved in a survey of Small Ruminant Production Management System in Nigeria. 

In 1984, he served as a consultant in the management of the West African Dwarf Goats in the Humid Tropics, a consortium of Nigerian/ Dutch mission in Ibadan, Ife and Zaria.   

 From 1976-79, he was appointed one of the Director of the Cross River Basin Authority by the then Military Ruler President Olusegun Obasanjo now President.
